The KPI I Forgot to Track
In my previous life, I lived by numbers. As a COO in the iGaming industry here in Malta, my days were defined by revenue targets, expansion metrics, and team performance. I was good at it. I loved the speed.
But there was one metric I completely ignored: my own energy.
Like many high-achieving professionals, I viewed stress as a fuel source. Caffeine was breakfast; adrenaline was lunch. I thought burnout was something that happened to other people, until it happened to me.
The Science of Slowing Down
I recently had the privilege of speaking at the SOHO Talks alongside Growth Gurus, where I shared the science behind what actually happens to our bodies in a corporate environment.
We often think of practices like Reiki, Ayurveda, or Yin Yoga as "soft" or "woo-woo." But in reality, they are sophisticated systems for nervous system regulation. When you are in a high-stakes meeting, your body enters a sympathetic state (fight or flight). Without a mechanism to switch back to a parasympathetic state (rest and digest), you sustain long-term damage.
